Bike shop, adventure cycling outfitter, leather craft store all under one roof
We started the bike shop in Los Angeles over 20 years ago out of passion for riding bikes. In 2008, we bought a piece of property and moved the shop to a bucolic mountain community called Topanga Canyon on the outskirts of L.A. so we could go mountain biking every day. With the Topanga State Park just a stone's throw away, our dreams were immediately realized. Our shop has since grown to become the go-to place for mountain bikes, adventure touring bikes, and special custom bike builds that enable adventurers to travel around the globe on just two wheels.
UnPredict Your Journey
We value the quality of life for everyone at the shop so we're closed at the beginning of the week in order to go on biking adventures, bikepacking trips, and any other fun outdoor activities. We're unapologetic about our strange hours because we believe having a healthy work-life balance is how we should live our lives. We encourage you to take time off to UnPredict Your Journey too.
Wood Cabin by the Creek
Our shop is in a wood cabin in the middle of the Santa Monica Mountains. Bike mechanics get to work on bicycles outdoors underneath a giant oak tree overlooking the creek all year long. Inside the cozy wood cabin is where our leathersmith churns out leather belts, musette bags, wallets, and other leather goods. Every day we feel so lucky to have this amazing spot in Topanga that's truly unique in Los Angeles.
TCO Leather Goods
In 2015, we kicked our creativity into high gear and started making leather goods in our wood cabin. At the beginning we made small key chains, valet trays, and put initials on leather saddles. Later we invested in leather sewing machines and tools to expand our offerings to inclucde canvas material. Our products now include belts, a variety of bags, wallets, dog collars, notebook covers, and more. TCO goods are sold in other retailers in Brooklyn, Phoenix, Omaha, San Pedro at Crafted, and soon in Portland, OR.
Our Awards
Over the years we have won numerous awards such as California Small Business of the Year, The Top Mountain Bike Pro Shop in the US, and America's Best Bike Shops 4 times. We are also a Surly Destination Shop so you'll find many Surly bikes and accessories in stock, along with other great adventure and mountain bikes.
About Topanga
Topanga is a canyon community in the Santa Monica Mountains nestled between Malibu, Pacific Palisades and the San Fernando Valley (Woodland Hills to be exact). Truly a hidden gem in Los Angeles, for decades Topanga has retained its retreat-like settings and rustic charms. Topanga is also one of L.A.'s more unique communities that has attracted independent and creative people throughout its history. It's been home to legendary musicians like Woodie Guthrie, Neil Young and Alice Cooper. In fact, our shop location was once the rehearsal studio for Jim Morrison of The Doors.
When you drive through Topanga Canyon you will immediately be awed by the lush and forest-like surrounding. It seems so remote but yet our shop is only 12 miles from the Santa Monica Pier. We have chosen this location for our shop not only for its natural serenity, but also for many of the prime mountain bike trails found in all of Southern California. Every day we are amazed at the beauty of this place and feel very lucky to continue doing what we love to do riding bikes and helping people in the community to enjoy riding as well.
The trails
The Santa Monica Mountains stretches from Encino in the east, through all of Malibu Creek State Park, Calabasas, Agoura Hills, and west into the Ventura County. Mountain bike enthusiasts can find many trails of various difficulty levels within a 30-minutes driving distance from our shop. Some of the popular trails are the Backbone Trail, Big Sycamore Canyon, Cheeseboro/Sulphur Springs, Caballero Canyon, Los Robles Canyon and more.
We welcome you to take a scenic drive up to Topanga to visit our shop. Come relax in our Adirondack chairs next to the creek or sit by the pot belly stove inside the cabin on a cold day. But you should definitely bring a bike and go on a great ride.

History of the shop
In 1999 we started as LA Bike Tours taking people on bicycle excursions around Los Angeles. We took out-of-town visitors and locals alike on bikes exploring and learning about Los Angeles area history. Destinations included Venice Beach, Beverly Hills, the Getty Center and many historic points of Hollywood. As avid mountain bikers we also offered off-road rides as well. We were proud to show people that Los Angeles really was a bicycle friendly city despite its deep-rooted car culture.
As we became more established in Hollywood we realized there was a need for a bicycle shop in the neighborhood. Hollywood Pro Bicycles was formed and our continued growth in the unexpected location on Hollywood's famous Walk of Fame surprised many people. Hollywood is a very diverse community and our customers included roadies, mountain bikers, bike messengers and urban commuters. We were glad to have helped Hollywood become a stronger cycling community over the years.
With the move to Topanga Canyon we changed our name to Topanga Creek Bicycles, and we have now become Topanga Creek Outpost. We will continue our mission to provide the highest quality products and best services to all surrounding neighborhoods.
